Samhain (aka All Hallows Eve): The Witchy, Ancestral Festival of Shadows & Magic 🎃
What is Samhain?
Samhain (pronounced SAH-win or SOW-in) lands on October 31st, the final sabbat of the wheel and the official start of the darker half of the year. It’s the OG Halloween, but WAY deeper and older. This is when the veil between the living and the spirit world is said to be thinnest, making it a powerful time for honoring ancestors, divination, and transformation.
Rooted in ancient Celtic tradition, Samhain marked the end of the harvest and the beginning of winter, a sacred moment to honor death as part of the natural cycle, and to prepare for the quiet introspection ahead.
What It Represents 🕯️💀
- Honoring ancestors and loved ones who passed on
- Embracing death as a natural, sacred part of life
- Surrender, transformation, and release
- Heightened spiritual awareness and divination
- Protection, magic, and shadow work
Real Talk 🌒✨
Samhain is like that deep, soul-cleansing breath before winter’s hush. It’s a chance to look back with love and forward with intention. Set up a sacred altar with photos, candles, and favorite things of your ancestors to feel their wisdom and support.
This is the ultimate time for cozying up with tarot, runes, or journaling, digging into shadow work, and releasing what no longer serves.
